  1. Enhanced wellness, and reduced disease risk. Two out of every three Americans are overweight, and one-third are clinically obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This disease is prevalent in much of the United States. As of 2009, over 20 per cent of 49 states had obesity prevalence rates (Colorado is the lone exception). Since 1980, the number of youngsters overweight has more than tripled. This is due to a lack of exercise, at least in part. Less than half of all Americans are having the required amount of exercise (about 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days), according to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). We never exercise 25 per cent at all. This has huge consequences for our wellbeing as there is a strong link between a sedentary lifestyle, obesity and many deadly diseases. In particular, overweight and obese people are at increased risk for obesity, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, certain cancers (endometrial, breast and colon), sleep apnea, and breathing difficulties. A 2005 CDC and National Institutes of Health research estimated that obesity kills more than 100,000 Americans annually. Therefore, the greatest advantage of a lifestyle of fitness is better health and a life which may be longer.
  2. Job efficiency improved. Sure, getting fit and safe will boost your performance at work, and save money for you and your employer. Researchers found in a 2005 study published by ACSM that when workers used their company gym, they were more successful and got along well with their colleagues. On exercise days, ratings for mental and interpersonal performance as well as the ability to manage the demands for time and output were much higher. Additionally, other research have shown that corporate workout programs can pay off with lower health care costs, absenteeism and stress, and improved morale and productivity.
  3. Increased Well-being in Psychology. There has been evidence from a variety of studies that people who exercise experience less depression, anger, distrust and stress than those who do not exercise. Furthermore, those who lead a lifestyle of exercise continue to experience improved mood, increased self-esteem, increased personal satisfaction, improved body image, increased strength, and increased confidence in their physical abilities.
